Happy Birthday Baby Girl…

Today is the day, my daughter is nine. She has almost gotten to double digits and I can say without a doubt that her being brought into this world of mine has and forever been a blessing. I remember the day I found out that I was pregnant with her, each appointment I had for her, finding out that she was a girl (although I always knew she was), and lastly the day we went to the hospital to have her. My Felicity, since the day she was born has always been my side kick, cuddle monster, pancake face, best friend, mini mommy and best medicine for a broken heart.

My felicity pies has been there with me though it all. She reminds me to be kind and to be silly, to appreciate the little things and to love with all my heart. Everyone has that special someone in their lives that touches them. Most people think that it’s their significant other who teaches them how to love. But I have come to learn that my kids have taught me this. They teach me every day how to love harder, have patience and like in the latest Cinderella movie, “have courage and be kind”.

So this blog and song is for her. On her birthday. To forever remind her how much I love her. The song I have chosen for this Musical Vibes is, Photograph by Ed Sheeran. In the first line of the song he says, “Lovin can hurt, lovin can hurt, sometimes.” That to me is the truest statement anyone can make. It applies to the love a mother has for her children, the love a man has for a woman and vice versa in both cases. But in the following verse he says, “Lovin can heal, lovin can mend your soul…it’s the only thing we take with us when we die” (I paraphrased) Also, another true statement that I think more people should really hear and let sink in. This, Felicity, I hope that you remember when you begin to fall in love. It can hurt. It can be hard. But, it can also mend what damage was done. The best things in life, baby girl are never easy, especially love. You must fight for them, work on them and treasure them when you found something worth keeping, but remember, I will always be here for you. Like he says in the chorus, “We keep this love in a photograph, we made these memories for ourselves, where our eyes are never closing, our hearts were never broken, time forever frozen and still, so you can keep me inside the pocket of your ripped jeans, holding me close until our eyes meet, you won’t ever be alone”.

I love my big girl with all that I am. I’m so proud of all that she has accomplished and all that she has yet to accomplish. Most parents say that they just want their kids to be happy, well its true. We just want them to be happy. I just want you to be happy, Felicity. I love you. Have a great birthday, enjoy the song everyone. I would also like to add that the video for this song is amazing because it not only goes with my theme of my daughter growing up but it shows home videos of Ed, himself growing up to become the man/rock star he is today. He too, would not be where he is today if it were not for his parents just wanting him to be happy. So, thank you Mr. Sheeran for sharing with us your memories. As always, have a very merry un-birthday to you!

Loving can hurt, loving can hurt sometimes
But it’s the only thing that I know
When it gets hard, you know it can get hard sometimes
It’s the only thing that makes us feel alive

We keep this love in a photograph
We made these memories for ourselves
Where our eyes are never closing
Our hearts were never broken
And time’s forever frozen, still

So you can keep me
Inside the pocket of your ripped jeans
Holding me close until our eyes meet
You won’t ever be alone, wait for me to come home

Loving can heal, loving can mend your soul
And it’s the only thing that I know
I swear it will get easier, remember that with every piece of ya
And it’s the only thing to take with us when we die

We keep this love in a photograph
We made these memories for ourselves
Where our eyes are never closing
Our hearts were never broken
And time’s forever frozen, still

So you can keep me
Inside the pocket of your ripped jeans
Holding me close until our eyes meet
You won’t ever be alone
And if you hurt me
That’s okay baby, only words bleed
Inside these pages you just hold me
And I won’t ever let you go
Wait for me to come home
Wait for me to come home
Wait for me to come home
Wait for me to come home

You can keep me
Inside the necklace you bought when you were sixteen
Next to your heartbeat where I should be
Keep it deep within your soul
And if you hurt me
That’s okay baby, only words bleed
Inside these pages you just hold me
And I won’t ever let you go

When I’m away, I will remember how you kissed me
Under the lamppost back on Sixth street
Hearing you whisper through the phone
“Wait for me to come home”
